Microsoft, Yahoo search pact cleared in Canada, Australia
Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc. said Tuesday that their high-profile, proposed search and advertising partnership has been cleared by antitrust officials in Canada and Australia, positive developments for the companies as they await a related decision from U.S. regulators.
“Microsoft and Yahoo have been notified that Australian and Canadian authorities have separately concluded their reviews and have no objections to our proposed search agreement,” Microsoft (MSFT 29.91, -0.03, -0.10%) said in a statement, adding that the companies still hope to close the deal early next year.
